I am pleased to announce that Jack Spoto of Freehold, NJ has joined the NJ-Hunter Pro-Staff team. Jack brings a host of talents, a wealth of knowledge, and a seroius committment to the hunting and outdoor communities. Jack lead the UBNJ through some of it's most prosperous and vibrant years and continues to serve the bowhunters of New Jersey through his continued presence on the UBNJ Council.
What stuck out in my mind of all the early lessons Uncle Carl instilled in me, was that there were people who are trying to end hunting and that they would stop at nothing to destroy our way of life. It's is from these lessons that I would do what I can to protect our heritage from these attacks, that I would get involved and fight for a sport that has given me so much! Since 1987, I have embarked on a trip, where I have dedicated my life to the protection and promotion of the sport of bow hunting. That year, I joined United Bowhunters as a Bergen County Representative, I also joined the Bergen Bowmen Inc., where I became actively involved with the club and it's many functions! A year later I became a hunting safety instructor with the Division of Fish and Wildlife, because I wanted to teach kids how to hunt safely and ethically .I became the Bergen Bowmen's Secretary in 1994 and held the post till 1999. As a member of The Black Rock Fish and Game Club, I took first place in my division from 1995-2001 in the indoor leagues and club championships. I was out of touch for a year and a half, when I moved from Elmwood Park to Freehold, NJ, but then Pete Planer, UBNJ Treasurer called and asked if i would come back on the council. I gladly accepted and in 2003, I was elected President of United Bowhunters of New Jersey, and I served 4 years from 2003-2007. In 2008, TANJ/UBNJ bestowed upon me the highest honor in my life by inducting me into the NJ Bowhunters Hall of Fame.I am now, serving the UBNJ council in the capacity of Past President, Central Region Vice President, Golf Outing Committee Chairman and Deer Management Co-Chairman. It's been my honor to meet and know Bowhunters and sportsmen from Cape May to High Point! I am a life member of UBNJ and the NRA. Professionally, I am a Wastewater Assistant Superintendent employed for 30 years with an S 4, C 3 licenses in Public Wastewater Treatment and Collection Systems. I taught Advanced Wastewater for Hudson County School of Technology from 2003-2007 and I belong to the New Jersey Water Environment Association. I reside in Freehold, NJ with my wife, 3 daughters, 3 cats and a Border Collie! Please join me in welcoming Jack as he joins the NJ-Hunter Pro-Staff. Welcome aboard Jack!! |

Jack Spoto, born and raised in Garfield, NJ, was taught to hunt by my Father Russell. I got my gun license in 1970 and through the persistence of my Uncle Carl Casper, I received my bow license in 1973. My Uncle spent many hours with me, teaching me to shoot, build arrows, the mechanics of the bow and how to hunt. While it took many years for his wisdom to sink in, there's never a time when I'm in the woods that for a moment I don't stop and remember that Uncle Carl taught me that or what would Uncle Carl do? I owe all of my woodsman ship, archery skills, and hunting methods to him.
