It is incumbent on all sportsmen and women who have enjoyed the pleasures of gun dog and bobwhite for years to take measures to reverse this trend. We, the sportsmen and women, must act now or suffer the inevitable loss of this most reasured and iconiclittle bird that has played such a role in the lives of pointing dogs and wing shooters nationwide. The NJQP is spearheading this effort in Nw Jersey by making the public aware and instituting habitat improvement projects, with a focus on the Southern Rgion of New Jersey where bobwhite are an indigenous species. NJQP is partnering with the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife, Team Habitat and others in implementing habitat restoration projects. NJQP is currently seeking funding through grants and donations to keep our efforts moving forward. NJQP is cultivating relationships with Ducks Unlimited, the Nothern Bobwhite Conservation Initiative, the Northern Bobwhite Quail Study Group, The Tall Timbers Project,The Albany Project, Pheasant Forever and numerous other organizations such as Quail Unlimited and quail Forever. The NJQP is a grass roots organization omprised of all volunteers with no paid staffers, thus allowing every cent generated to go directly to quail restoration projects right here in New Jersey. It is the hope of the NJQP that other states will take similar action and use the NJQP as a model for strategies and initiatives that could be implanted in their particular state and bcome a functional part of saving the bobwhite. NJQP is seeking funding support and research sharing with a "do whatever it takes" attitude to be successful in reaching its goals.

In March 2007, a group of concerned New Jersey sportsmen and women formed the New Jersey Quail Project (NJQP). Originally, a committee under another organization but now a part of the New Jersey Outdoor Alliance Environmental Projects. In response to the alarming rate of decline of bobwhite quail populations across the nation of the NJQP has launched an energetic campaign to save our wile bobwhite quail populations from extinction.
A recent study releasted by the Audubon Society revals an 82% rate of decline in bobwhite quail populations across the country since 1967. According to research findings bobwhite quail numbers estimtaed to be around 40 million in 1967 now number only about 5 million. One can readily see the urgency in responding to save this most precious game bird that has existed as part of th fabric, which constitutes our outdoor heritage.
